I found my love by the gasworks croft Dreamed a dream by the old canal Kissed my girl by the factory wall Dirty old town, dirty old town. Clouds were drifting across the moon Cats are prowling in the alley Spring's a girl in the street at night Dirty old town, dirty old town. I heard a siren from the docks Saw a train set the night on fire Smelled the spring in the smokey wind Dirty old town, dirty old town.

Partners 04:25
We are partners at this party, unprotected We were brought here against our will cause we were taken by surprise when we looked in each other's eyes and now time is falling round us, standing still We are partners in our criminal activity, feels like we're committing crimes against each other. Because we're busting through the windows and we're tearing down the walls and we're destroying inhibitions of one another C: And it feels so dangerous but it also feels so right you're the only one I ever wanna kiss cause you're my partner tonight You are ever in my field of vision and we both know that we're feeling the same it's a new sensation I have never felt before and I feel like I am floating towards the door We embrace each other in the darkness but this is not some stupid one night stand this fulfills a higher purpose I am humbly at your service I hold you're melancholy in my hand yeah, I hold you're melancholy in my hand C: We are partners for forever we agree that that's how it should be but in truth we just have this night, in the end we know it's finite, this is probably the last you'll see of me. We are partners for however long this lasts but we know it will end when the morning arrives tonight we've got whatever this is, tomorrow it won't exist because you'll look on me with soberer eyes yes, you'll look on me with somber, sober eyes C;

I've been a wild rover for many a year And I spent all my money on whiskey and beer, And now I'm returning with gold in great store And I never will play the wild rover no more. C: And it's no, nay, never, No nay never no more, Will I play the wild rover No never no more. I went to an ale-house I used to frequent And I told the landlady my money was spent. I asked her for credit, she answered me "nay Such a custom as yours I could have any day." C: I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight. She said "I have whiskey and wines of the best And the words that I spoke sure were only in jest." C: I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son. And if they forgive me as ofttimes before Sure I never will play the wild rover no more. C:

I find this town utterly romantic and beautiful in the middle of the night, as its thousands of people with thousands of stories allow the lights to make shadows, projecting their raw hearts onto the pavement with fierce, dark colors. I find this town utterly romantic and beautiful in the middle of the night, when the stillness of streetlights maintains some semblance of an equilibrium (even if it may not seem so) and the moon looks on, observing all of us in all our translucent glory. I find this town utterly romantic and beautiful in the middle of the night, when young men and women become immortal and the tragedy of tomorrow seems forever far off in the distant future and the horrors of our truest selves shake off their locks and chains and shackles and release themselves (and us) into the air. Yes, it is true: I find this town utterly romantic and beautiful tonight

If I had money enough to spend and lengthy time to sit awhile there is a maiden in this town who surely has my heart beguiled With rosy cheeks and ruby lips, I own she has my heart enthralled So fill to me the parting glass, goodnight and joy be with you all Oh, all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company and all the evil I've ever done, alas, it was to none but me. And all I've done for want of wit, to memory now I can't recall. So fill to me the parting glass, goodnight and joy be with you all. Oh, all the comrades that e'er I've had are sorry for my going away and all the sweethearts that e'er I've had would wish me one more day to stay. But since it falls unto my lot that I should rise and you should not, I gently rise and softly call goodnight and joy be with you all. Fill to me the parting glass and drink a health whate’er befalls And gently rise and softly call goodnight and joy be with you all

Fall asleep to this song The night is coming to an end I’m sending you good thoughts And sweet dreams on the wind C: I am dancing with you In the stars and on the moon What a night it has been O, what a night it’s been for me What a night it has been O, what a night it’s been for you C: R: Finally the night is over I can put my arm around your shoulders we deserve a good night's rest just lay your head upon my chest INSTRUMENTAL BREAK Fall asleep to this song While I hold you close to me We can dance on stardust Just take my hand and let me lead C: Cause I am dancing with you In the stars and on the moon R:

about

This is another "concept" album from me to you. All of these songs in one way or another are about nightlife and the experiences people have at parties, bars, clubs, pubs, in bed, or sitting alone on a bench downtown. My goal is that these songs and my performances of them are a decent representation of those experiences.

Really, all of these songs are “story songs;” I suppose I look at this album as a musicalized novel. I don’t quite know whether all the songs belong to one character, or each song belongs to a different character, or what. I’d honestly like to hear what you think about that.

If a couple parts of this album seem intentionally "off," it's because they are. Again, I am trying to reflect the experiences we have when we are drunk, high, tired, in love, or any other state of intoxication that is possible in nightlife. What attracts me to nightlife and its experiences is the fact that they are very human, and thus, flawed. Besides, to paraphrase the play "Lion in Winter," nothing in life has any business being perfect anyway.

Thank you very much for listening and I hope we meet up one night.
